4th of July Fireworks in San Diego

June 30, 2016

San Diego 4th of July

Every July 4th, San Diego joins the rest of the country in celebrating the United States of America’s Independence Day holiday with fireworks.

Many of San Diego’s residents and visitors flock to the beaches, backyards, and parks to fire up their barbecues all while flying the flag and wearing red, white and blue. They often stay up to watch the fireworks shows. Why? Because fireworks are exciting & fun!

The fire in the sky begins at 9pm all around San Diego County. Here are the top 4 fireworks display venues for the 4th of July! ūüáļūüáł

Downtown San Diego
Big Bay Boom Fireworks Show: Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this year’s show (the 16th annual) will knock everyone’s socks off. It takes a great deal of expertise for four barges of fireworks to discharge simultaneously around San Diego Bay. One year, all the fireworks discharged at one time, thus the finger crossing.

The show¬†begins at 9 p.m. and is accompanied by a patriotic score simulcast on radio stations FM 105.7 and AM 1090. If you can’t make it to the dock of the bay, you can also watch the show live on Fox 5 San Diego.

Tip! Here’s a special treat for fans of the legendary Johnny Cash – the San Diego Symphony’s¬†Bayside Summer Nights Concert Series has scheduled¬†Cash’d Out, a Johnny Cash tribute band to ring in Independence Day. This concert series is located on San Diego Bay tidelands so the views of the Big Bay Boom will be first-rate.

Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach Fourth of July Fireworks: OB is known for lighting up beyond fireworks but on this day, it really is about the fireworks. Their fireworks show starts at 9 p.m. and is launched from the Ocean Beach Pier, at the foot of Newport Avenue and Abbott Street. If you’d like to listen to the official fireworks soundtrack, go to KYXY 96.5 FM.

La Jolla
Fourth of July Lights Over The Cove: La Jolla is definitely a place where you want to arrive earlier rather than later so be sure to plan accordingly. Traffic can be frustrating as everyone is cramming the I-5 to get to the beaches, see the fireworks, etc. The¬†fireworks show at La Jolla Cove starts at 9 p.m. and if you’re looking for the exact location, it’s Ellen Browning Scripps Park, 1180 Coast Boulevard.

South Bay
Chula Vista‚Äôs 4th Fest: After facing various budget hurdles in previous years, Chula Vista’s fireworks show is back and promises to be better than ever. It’s new venue is the Olympics Training Center which can accommodate a lot of people. ¬†The fireworks show begins¬†at 9 p.m. and like the other three venues, it will also feature a¬†music soundtrack synchronized to the display airing on: 92.5 FM, 90.3 FM, 91.1 FM, 760 AM and 100.7 FM.

Parking is a premium and it will cost you $10 per vehicle and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis starting at 6pm. The Chula Vista Olympic Training Center is located at 2800 Olympic Parkway.

Happy Birthday, America!
